What is Brent's Place?
A loving home that helps to create a community of hope and healing for kids with cancer and their families. It's located in Aurora, Colorado, just blocks from Children's hospital and is a campus of meticulously maintained apartments designed to protect the kids from inadvertent infections as they are working to recover from life-threatening treatments. This campus is so important to families that have to travel many miles to get the care their children need at Children's without the added expense of renting a hotel or traveling for many hours in a day. The average family stays at Brent's Place for 60 days, and some up to a year. It's an invaluable resource not only to the hospital, but to this new community that people have moved their family to. We have worked with Brent's Place for over a dozen years and see first hand what a top notch organization they are.

We always have a raffle at the end of the party - individuals can purchase raffle tickets. While prizes may vary, in the past we have had things such as movie tickets, drink tickets, t-shirts, beer glasses, sunglasses, performing arts tickets, sporting tickets, massages, etc. All the money raised goes to Brent's Place!

If we are friends with another team, can we complete the race together?
Sure - you will still have your own team of 2,3, or 4 and will complete challenges with your team, but you can strategize and travel together as much or as little as you would like. That goes for any team, whether you know each other or not. Feel free to ask strangers questions.

Can we take a taxi, jump in a car, wear roller blades, tear it up on a skateboard, ride bikes or any of the sort?
No can do - you can use what you were born with and that's it...well, you will have a RTD lightrail pass, so you are encouraged to use the lightrail, 16th street mall shuttle, or a bus. That's all folks! If you cheat you will be disqualified.

Is it better to have 2, 3, or 4 people on a team?
It really depends on what kind of a team you want if you are out to win, make sure you stack the team with a combination of resourceful, brainy, and athletic teammates. If you are out simply to have a great time for a good cause, then think of how many of your friends fit that bill and build your team that way. Some stops are geared towards one person completing a challenge and some require all teammates to participate. The winning team last year had 4 people, but that's just how their team worked best:)

Do I have to be in really great shape to compete?
You need to decide if this is the right fit for you. If you come up on a challenge that is just too much for the team (either mental or physical) you can choose to skip on to the next. Most of the physical demands of the event will be traveling between Challenges. Some teams choose to run, others walk, and some plan their route strategically in order to utilize as much public transit as possible.

Can we dress up?
ABSOLUTELY!! Have fun with it! While it's not mandatory to wear your t-shirt, you will need to have it with you during the entire race so that participating businesses know you are part of the race. In the past we have had a disco crew, a reggae band, castaways from Hawaii, a bridal shower, conquistadors...the list goes on...the best dresses team won movie passes last year! Just make sure you are comfortable enough to trek through the city (i.e. tennis shoes) and if you are required to complete a challenge that you can take off any extra costume items that might get in the way or pose a safety risk to yourself or others.

Bring your rain gear! This event will go on in rain or shine. You do not spend the entire race outside. Some challenges happen outdoors and you do travel from challenge to challenge outdoors, but you will get a break from the elements at the many indoor challenges. So, don't sweet it, just come prepared!

How well do I need to know Downtown Denver?
It doesn't hurt to have someone that is familiar with Downtown, but we will not count you out just because you don't know the city. This race is about being resourceful - a map, knowledge of public transportation, and a potentially helpful friend is just a phone call away so bring you cell phone!

Check-in begins at 9:15AM and the bullhorn will sound at 10am. Plan to be on the course from 2-4 hours, depending on how well you plan your course and how quickly you complete your challenges. Do we need to raise $100?
Your team will become eligible to race once the team, as a whole, raises $100 dollars. Most teams send out an email and raise well over $100 (the record is over $3500 held by the Lockton Sweethearts). Some teams choose to split the $100 and each make their own donation. The proceeds of this race go to Brent's Place.
